Seems to top out close to 40K tris per frame when exploring:ģ5,949 tris per frame x 30 fps = 1.07 million polygons per secondģ6,028 tris per frame x 30 fps = 1.08 mppsĭuring gameplay the actually gameplay the game takes a nose dive polygon wise. BUT at the same frate as shenmue 2, 30fps, yakuza might actually pushing less polygons at max. Also the citizens in yakuza are extrmely low poly, even more than shenmue 2 but theres alot more of them. Surprisingly while looking at the polygon count it seems both games range about the same with shenmue 2 reaching higher polygons per frame count at max. Very nice looking models and similar game play with spike out. Yakuza is a 30 fps game(though the emulator lets you play at 60 fps by default) with alot of post process effects at times. I had to rely on zerogs for polygon count but still used the extraction method to check if it does backface culling, it does not. Next comparison is going to be two post long. I would like to see yakura running on the shenmue engine, that would have been cool. Yakuza 1 uses fixed cameras during exploration and completely different terrain during gameplay while shenmue is seamless in that regard.

Despite how little I like the shenmue series I find it more impressive than say Yakuza 1 on the ps2. They changed around how things rendered making an even bigger game with more NPCs visible and such. Shenmue 2 like Sakura wars 4 was an incremental upgrade. If you think about it part 4 only added additional frame buffer effects, higher Rez textures and better lods at a cost of stages that are like a third in size.( I know this because I personally played through both) I think those two were like a year and a half removed.

That would be like saying Sakura wars 4 is not good enough because it's a minuscule update of part 3. Have you considered trying F355 Challenge 3rd person patch? You may still prefer the gameplay of 1st person but the 3rd person mode really shows what the Dreamcast can do, no other racing game hits the same polycounts. It uses super high-res textures which is the Dreamcast's greatest strength. The game just seems to be the perfect balance in terms of graphics, the only thing missing is a locked 60 FPS. Imagine if they built a completely new engine with also inspiration from what they saw on PS2. 2 years is a long time in the technology world. Like for example, to hit 1.5 million PPS in Tokyo Xtreme Racer 2, you gotta stack 4 cars on screen at the prefect spot on the track. I remember when the DC was still alive going to sites that had VMU saves and downloading them to see the latter part of the game Speaking of which I once downloaded a Japanese save for F355 and the person replays, were like watching someone playing Daytona USA.Literary power sliding the game to get amazing timesHave you considered trying F355 Challenge 3rd person patch? I thought it looked stunning myself, I think the trouble with a game like Sakura 4 was it's so text-heavy one never got to see the latter parts. And this game simply seems to be the best of that batch.

I know its definitely not the best the Dreamcast can do, but because of circumstances we gotta choose between these late 2001/early 2002 games that still would've been considered early-mid Dreamcast games. A definite step up from part 3 who had rather low Rez textures( but much bigger interactive maps) and didn't use cutscenes models for gameplay unlike part 4 which swaps the cutscenes model in for an active unit. The game just seems to be the perfect balance in terms of graphics, the only thing missing is a locked 60 FPS. It's a pretty game but I don't think it's the best the DC can do, definitely not polygon wise either. Seeing how you love blur and framebuffer effects IAM guessing it's that. IAM really curious why do you think Sakura taisen 4 has the best graphics. I think you also have to factor in just how much more Shenmue II is being asked to handle the game maps are way bigger and far more vastWell it was moderately out of date. What is wrong with that, when its one of the best game engines around at the time and on the Dreamcast.
